Attorney Peter Gorton is the principal owner of the Lachman & Gorton Law Office. He has been practicing law for 41 years. His primary practice is helping people win Social Security Disability benefits. He represents disability claimants in hearings before Social Security Administrative Law Judges (ALJs). He also takes disability appeals to federal court.
In fact, Peter brings well over 75 disability cases a year to United States Federal District Court and has taken cases to the United States 2nd Circuit Court (one step below the United States Supreme Court).
For many years, Lachman & Gorton represented lenders, but Peter changed the firm’s mission to represent people with disabilities because he found it more satisfying to help those in need.
His dedication earned him a “Client Champion” distinction from the Martindale-Hubbell attorney rating service in 2020. Of the law firm clients who submitted reviews about working with Peter, 100% of them recommended him to others who need a lawyer.
Other attorneys on Martindale-Hubbell also recognized him for achieving the highest level of professional excellence that the service awards.
“The most enjoyable work we do is helping those who have disabilities, who are denied their benefits from government agencies, and bringing those cases before judges to get benefits for our clients,” Peter says.
Peter received his undergraduate degree from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, and his law degree from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia.
He has also been involved in the community and served on the board of directors of several organizations, most notably the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier.
